- Insulative properties of metal affect the burning of the fuel
- Providing insulation between burning materials and fuel
- Air pipe openings that are flush with the bottom of the tray work better than air pipe openings that extrude out from the bottom of the tray.
- Heat concentration through the use of a cone is critical in getting rice hulls hot enough to burn
- Gradually sloping surface provides a larger burnable area which is also another key component
